About Us

Rachelle and Katanga decided to join forces and start their own club in 2004 when it was felt that the needs of dedicated salsa dancers in Brighton were not being met. This meant either travelling up to London for a regular salsa fix, or starting something themselves. The result…Salsa Pimente!

Rachelle

Born in New Zealand, Rachelle came to the UK in 2000 and it was here that she developed her passion for salsa. She had never danced before however had a strong background in marching (a sport unique to New Zealand and Australia that is best described as a cross between military drill and Irish dancing!) for which she has won over twenty national titles. She has teaches both privately and in various clubs in the south, and also performs with the group Fahrenheit both in England and abroad.

Katanga

Originally from Comoros Islands, Katanga started dancing at the age of 6. His first foray into dancing was through traditional african dances, for which he won several competitions, then he went onto Sook, break-dancing, and later - the latin dances. He first studied salsa in France, with Cuban and Colombian teachers, and then in the UK where he changed to the cross body style. For the last three years he has been teaching salsa both privately and in various clubs across the south of England.
